Solvocracy is for groups that make real decisions together and want to remember them. Here is who it fits, what setting it up takes, and what we promise.
Who it fits
Solvocracy fits a group with a known membership that makes real decisions every month.
- Housing co-ops and cohousing communities, deciding budgets, shared spaces, house rules and new members.
- Makerspaces and member co-ops, deciding what to buy, what the rules are and what dues pay for.
- Granges, halls and clubs with committees, deciding grants, scholarships, rental rates and programs.
- Nonprofits with a working board, deciding programs and where the money goes.
- Congregations and member organizations, that vote on their own budget.
Solvocracy works best for groups whose members have a stake in the outcome, when there can be disagreement, when past decisions might need revisiting, where the outcome of a vote will stick, and when the effort of reading and writing is worth the better outcome that participation creates.
What setting up takes
One person sets the group up. They become its first sponsor, and they can hand roles on as soon as they like.
A short AI conversation asks about your group and walks you through the set-up form. Or if you prefer you can fill in the form directly. You will write your group's purpose as a question and give it a standing answer in your own words. That is the most important piece of the whole set-up.
Then a checklist walks you through the rest: what kind of group you are, the plain facts a newcomer needs, the parts of the group, the people, your first decision, and the decisions you have already made that still shape how things work. Past decisions are marked as history, so nobody mistakes them for live ones. You can stop whenever you like and the checklist picks up where you left off.
A good first decision is a small one. The set-up offers an introductory question for your group: "Unless someone objects by the date, we use Solvocracy for this one decision this month."
What a pilot looks like
For now we work with a small number of groups, by invitation. We talk with the person who will set your group up, answer questions, and fix what gets in your way. Your group does its own setting up, because that is how you will know it works for you.
How long a pilot runs and how many people it holds is agreed with each group before it starts.
What we promise about your group's work
Your group is invite-only, and only its members can see what is in it. Other groups on the site cannot see it, and neither can anyone we show Solvocracy to.
We don't share your group's private data with anyone. Solvocracy runs on two hosting services, Supabase for the database and Vercel for the website, which store it for us under their own privacy rules. We will point you to those rules if you want them. We open your group's content only when you ask us for help, ask for an export, or give us permission in advance, and we keep no copy outside the system.
Everything in your group is yours. A sponsor can download the group's whole record at any time. You can also ask us for a full export, for any reason, and for deletion. If a pilot ends, you get the export, and then, if you ask, the group is deleted. If Solvocracy ever stops running, you get your complete record before anything goes dark.
What it costs
Pilots are by invitation for now. Pricing will be published here when it is set.
